The Oceanis 42: Beneteau’s New Mid Range Cruiser with the Largest Cockpit in its Class

To mark its 40th anniversary, the Oceanis range reaffirms its commitment to the French craftsmanship that has shaped its identity since its inception. This new model builds on that commitment, underpinned by the expertise of BENETEAU’s teams and a manufacturing process that relies on a skilled workforce. Forty years after the launch of the first Oceanis, the vast majority of the range continues to be produced in France, demonstrating our long-standing commitment to industrial expertise. With the Oceanis 42, BENETEAU opens a new chapter in the strategic 40-foot segment. Successor to the Oceanis 40.1, she represents a more accomplished, more versatile and more refined generation of cruising yacht. This project was born from a constant dialogue with the customers, dealers and the specialized press. Data collected from our sailing fleet has been carefully analyzed to simplify onboard systems, improve ergonomics and enhance reliability.

AN OPEN DECK DESIGNED AROUND THE SEA

From the very first step onboard, the sense of space is striking. Thanks to our expertise, the Oceanis 42 offers the largest cockpit in the 40-foot market segment. Compared to her predecessor, cockpit floor space has increased by 12%, while seating areas have grown by 10%. Nauta Design carefully reworked proportions and circulation to create a true outdoor living space that feels both structured and fluid.

At the stern, two configurations transform the onboard experience:

• In the open version, the swim platform becomes a natural extension of the cockpit, bringing guests closer to the sea.

• In the closed version, aft seating creates a safer and more social cockpit environment, adding comfortable seating close to the helm stations while underway.

Comfortable at anchor. Secure while sailing.

The helm stations benefit from the innovations introduced on the Oceanis 47 and Oceanis 52: integrated seating and backrests, ergonomic consoles gathering all controls in one place, and the engine throttle directly integrated into the helm console. Every maneuver feels intuitive, every adjustment is within easy reach.

OCEANIS 42: PERFORMANCE AND CONTROL, BY MARC LOMBARD YACHT DESIGN

Marc Lombard Yacht Design Office is renowned for designing hulls that deliver both performance and balance, and the Oceanis 42 fully embodies this philosophy.

Performance is genuine, yet always under control. Excellent stability under sail. Balanced helm feel. Efficiency on every point of sail. To further enhance sailing performance, sail area has been increased: the standard furling mast is now 600 mm taller, while both the classic and performance masts gain an additional 300 mm.

This evolution delivers greater power and sailing sensations without compromising accessibility or control.

A yacht designed to be reassuring and easy to handle, built for long passages with complete peace of mind.

AN INTERIOR WITH A BRIGHT AND ELEGANT DESIGN

Natural light immediately draws the eye. Volumes feel generous. The atmosphere is elegant, contemporary and refined.
The saloon and cabin hull windows are now 2.5 times larger, flooding the interior with natural light and creating an unprecedented visual connection with the sea. Coachroof glazing has also been enlarged to reinforce the sensation of openness and brightness.

Interior upholstery is Premium, among the highest quality in the segment, and offered in three distinct atmospheres:

  • Ivory, understated and timeless
  • Sunset, warm and inviting
  • Pacific, bright and luminous

The Sand Oak woodwork brings softness and modernity, while the 2 mm solid wood edging enhances perceived quality and tactile richness. Every detail has been carefully crafted to create a durable and refined onboard atmosphere.

The saloon is spacious and welcoming, designed for sharing moments onboard. Opposite, a true dedicated desk area structures the owner’s space, making remote work, passage planning or everyday organization feel natural.
A bookshelf has also been integrated into the mast bulkhead, while a dedicated cabinet at the companionway centralizes all electrical controls for a clearer and more intuitive onboard organization.

The Oceanis 42 is designed for living not just for sailing.

A TRUE SEAWORTHY GALLEY

Positioned at the foot of the companionway, the L-shaped galley fully embraces its seaworthy character. Stable when heeled, secure while sailing, yet always connected to cockpit life.

With 215 liters of refrigeration capacity, it offers the largest cold storage volume in the 40-foot market segment.

Functional at sea, friendly at anchor, designed for autonomy.

A UNIQUE LEVEL OF MODULARITY
The Oceanis 42 is the only 40-footer on the market offering five different layout configurations:
2 cabins / 1 head
3 cabins / 1 head
3 cabins / 2 heads
• 3 cabins / 3 heads
4 cabins / 2 heads dedicated to charter operations

It is also the only yacht in her category offering two distinct interior architectures: an L-shaped galley version, and a longitudinal galley version featuring an expansive countertop designed for shared onboard living.
